Three Late Scratches

As most of you probably already know, defenseman Keith Seabrook injured his shoulder at Calgary Hitmen camp and will not be participating in this week’s rookie camp at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. In addition to Seabrook, there are two more late scratches.

Goaltender Simeon Varlamov will report to Yarolslavl of the Russian Super League after the conclusion of the Super Series between Russia and Canada this weekend. Yaroslavl’s season is already underway and it makes more sense for him to join his club there and play meaningful league games rather than practice and play bits and pieces of a preseason game or two in North America.

Defenseman Viktor Dovgan has signed a contract with CSKA Moscow and will remain in his native country to play in 2007-08. The 20-year-old defenseman played his first year pro last season, skating for the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays. Married with an infant child, Dovgan was homesick for a good bit of last season and had hoped to bring his family to the States in 2007-08. He may have realized that it will be easier for him and his family to remain in Russia this season and to return to the States at some point in the future.
