Camp Notes

I’m told that even though forwards Tomas Fleischmann and Jakub Klepis have yet to sign contracts for the 2007-08 season, they will be coming to training camp and will be participating in drills and the daily routine even if they do not come to terms with the team between now and then.

Also, we had a question about Eric Fehr on today’s Capitals Report podcast and I opined that we might see him next week when rookie camp opens. But Nate Ewell was correct in correcting me, because Fehr will not be on the rookie camp roster. That roster and the team’s training camp roster should be released some time next week.

What’s the holdup on them signing? It can’t be money. Is it just that they want one-way contracts?

I think the one-way contract is probably the biggest thing. I’m not worried about either of them getting signed. There’s plenty of time between now and the start of camp, and plenty of time between now and the start of the season.

Is Fehr not on the roster because he’s no longer considered a rookie or is there still reason to be concerned about his injuries- leg or back- from last season?

If he’s still injured his future is starting to look grim- just when he really looked like he was ready to take it to the next level too.

Is there any word on his physical condition? I hope we’ll see a healthy Fehr on the regular camp roster.

    Errant,
Fehr is not on the roster because he will be a third-year pro this season. Rookie camp is restricted to those who are heading into their first or second seasons as pros. I don’t have any definitive word on his physical condidtion, but we’ll know in about two weeks.

Mike , Thanks for confirming that rookie camp is for first and second year pros and the other updates, too.
