Zednik is Back, Bradley Still Out

The Caps are on the ice for their morning skate at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. as I type this. The top two forward lines will remain the same for tonight’s contest between Washington and the Florida Panthers. Richard Zednik is back in the lineup, and he will skate on the right side of a line with left wing Matt Pettinger and center Boyd Gordon. The Caps’ other line will feature Brian Sutherby between Donald Brashear and Ben Clymer.

Zednik has been cleared to play after recovering from sports hernia surgery. He was injured in the second period of Washington’s 7-4 win over Buffalo on Dec. 2. He has missed 25 games as a result of that injury.

The defensive pairings remain the same.

This means that Eric Fehr stays with the Capitals for now, and that Matt Bradley won’t return to the lineup just yet. I’m guessing Bradley hasn’t skated much since before the All-Star break, and that is likely a factor in his not being in tonight’s lineup.

The Florida game is the second of a three-game road trip. Washington concludes the trip on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh before returning home for another afternoon game on Sunday against the Islanders.

    Waht are the “personal reasons” for Bradley’s absence after going home to Ottawa? IS GMGM merely hiding an injury?

    I believe his mother passed away.

    Zednick doesn’t seem to be the same guy that last wore a Caps sweater. Is it just age? I’d hate to see him traded again for sentmental reasons but realisticly would anyone be interested? Would it be worthwhile to the Caps?

  4. Bradley just might be the odd man out period. I mean who would you rather him dress for? Not Fehr, not Brashear, not Clymer. He just might find it tough to get back in the lineup.

    @Winchester Mike,

    I found Zednik to have played a rather good game in numerous occasions just before he got this injury that’s kept him out for so long. While not getting many goals/assists during the time, he was certainly driving the net a lot and causing a lot of problems for the opposing defense. Personally, I hope he can get back into the groove of playing quickly after having been gone for so long, it’s got to be quite an adjustment!
