Terms of the Jurcina Deal

There seems to be some confusion over the terms of today’s trade between the Caps and Bruins. Defenseman Milan Jurcina goes from Boston to Washington in exchange for a conditional draft pick. The pick will be a 2008 pick, simply because the conditions pertaining to the pick cannot be determined until the end of the 2007-08 season.

The conditions relate to games and minutes played. It is more likely that Jurcina will end up costing the Caps their fourth-round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, but if he does meet the conditions, the Caps will happily surrender their third-round choice in the same draft for the 23-year-old Slovakian defenseman.
