The Capitals have assigned goaltenders Frederic Cassivi and Daren Machesney, and center Kyle Wilson to Hershey (AHL) and goaltender Michal Neuvirth to Plymouth (OHL). The trim leaves Washington with 19 forwards, 10 defensemen and two goaltenders on its training camp roster.

The National Hockey League could screw up a one-car funeral. They are all about fixing what’s not broken (new jerseys make everyone 9% faster!) and letting real problems wither (scheduling, television, web sites). Here’s another example. Defensemen Tyler Sloan and Sasha Pokulok were sent to Hershey of the AHL today. That leaves 20 forwards, 10 defensemen and five netminders in camp, including right wing Eric Fehr who has not participated because of injury.
